Solutions
The WDB is your single-source local partner in identifying and meeting your company’s workforce needs in today’s global economy. The WDB understands that the most important resource for businesses is a stable supply of skilled workers. Our solutions can help you protect this valuable resource while enhancing your bottom line and competitiveness.
Whether you need one or 100 workers, part-time, full-time, professional, or entry level, call us to help find qualified applicants. Our recruitment process is easy to use and casts a wide net via North Carolina’s JobLink Career Centers. With one phone call, a representative can assist you in posting your job and developing a screening and referral process. We can counsel you on Federal bonding programs and various incentives and tax credits to support your hiring efforts. All referrals will be made to your company in the manner you request. We can even provide private space in our JobLink Career Centers for interviewing and screening.
Applicant screening and assessment is a vital part of hiring the right employee and requires a major commitment of time and resources. We can assist you in identifying needed job skills, designing a vocational assessment process and screening candidates to help you select the right people. If you have software that analyzes the abilities of your applicants, you can choose to install it on our computers and let our professional assessment staff administer the tests in a secure, confidential environment. We also offer our local online tool, www.triadjoblink.com, to assist you in locating the right candidates.
The largest item on a company’s balance sheet is worker salaries. Employee turnover and the cost of hiring and training new employees drive personnel costs even higher. On-the-job training is one of the most cost-effective ways to improve productivity and acquire skills to meet long-term business needs. The WDB can also pay up to half the cost of training new hires or existing workers. We make participation easy. If you need new employees, we will help you identify potential employees that are ready to be trained for your company or industry. Once this is done, you select and hire the people you want and they will receive on-the-job training in your company. If current employees need skill upgrades or retraining, we will work with you to develop a plan to meet your company’s needs.
Transitional Employment
The Transitional Employment program allows employers to provide meaningful work experience to individuals who may have recently completed training in an area but lack experience necessary to obtain employment in the field. For the transitional employment period, individuals are not hired by the employer. The individual's wages, workers compensation, and accident insurance are paid by the WDB. Individuals may work up to 300 hours for the employer during this program. At the end of the transitional period, employers may elect to hire these individuals on a full-time basis, but the WDB will no longer pay wages or cover the individual's workers compensation.
To assist you in both long- and short-term workforce planning and business strategies, the WDB can provide wage information, employment trends, occupational forecasts and other economic data tailored to your industry or specific occupations. The WDB can also help you access resources to assist you with work opportunity tax credits, unemployment insurance information and small business resources.
Our JobLink Career Centers are partners in a statewide initiative to issue standardized, skill-based credential ratings to job seekers and existing workers. The WorkKeys Assessment System, a software-based tool, can be used to identify job seekers and employees whose skills are at one of three levels: gold, silver or bronze. These rated credentials will be portable and standardized throughout North Carolina. As an employer or relocating business, this information can help you evaluate workforce readiness quickly and efficiently.
Incumbent Workforce Development Program
The Incumbent Workforce Development Program can increase the skill and wage level of your employees and enhance your profitability and competitiveness. This program provides funding for educational and skills training for current employees, and is available to established Guilford County businesses through the WDB.
Companies may apply for up to $25,000 of training in one year and $40,000 lifetime. For more information, please contact us.
